http://www.musictarget.com Jefferson Airplane sues Paul Kantner for unlawful use of name The ongoing battle between Paul Kantner and the other members of Jefferson Airplane has now led to legal action. Jefferson Airplane Volunteers and Jefferson Airplane's former Airplane manager Bill Thompson have filed a federal lawsuit in California claiming that Kantner is using the Airplane name and association without permission. The plaintiffs claim that this violates an agreement Kantner signed in 1985 not to performer under the words Jefferson or Airplane unless the band's other corporate stockholders gave him permission. Jefferson Airplane Volunteers has performed in the San Francisco Bay Area over the past three months. Thompson says that the lawsuit is designed to insure the quality of the Airplane's legacy. Rather than damages, the lawsuit seeks a court order to stop Kantner from using the name for his performances.
