I am curious, how do most of you get your buns?  Foof came to us on an early Saturday AM.  My husband was Elk hunting and my 16 yr old son and his friend had just returned (6:30 AM) from their news paper routes.  The Friend had a scruffy little bunny in his paper pouch.  Having an ex racing Greyhound, I knew we would never be able to keep a bunny.  However Foof suprised us all by showing the Grey that He was top bun.  Almost one year later after the busiest day of my life, I arrived home after a swim meet to find a beautiful silver rabbit hopping in my front yard.  The neighbors all went in to hide.  But hey, I had a bunny, food and water bottles.  I knew what to do.  After all Foof had become litter trained. And was a delighful addition to our home.  Sterling could join us too.  They were in the midst of their teenage behavior. I have large areas of carpet pulled up in every single room.  Oh, well.  We will have to recarpet some day. Both boys were much smaller when they arrived, not skinnier, smaller.  I believe they were both Easter Buns that began to lose their cuteness and their behavior was like, well like a teenager.   I am rambling,  really how did you all obtain these precious buns?

I am rambling,  really how did you all obtain these precious buns? Hi there,   My S/O and I went through a particularly traumatic episode mid last year (long story), and felt that we needed something to pour our love into.  We thought about it, and talked about it, and decided that maybe a bunny was exactly what we needed.  I did a whole ton of research, talking to the local RSPCA, breeders and looking on the internet (lurking here for a couple of months before saying 'Hi').  Owning a bunny wasn't quite what we expected. I think we expected something like a dog with a fuzzy butt.    We still felt though, having done our research, that a bunny was what we would treasure most, mainly due to their frailty and personality. Enter Boggle and Busta, aka the Destructo Twins.  Two Mini Rex brothers who helped Scott and I open our hearts again.  They were, and are, the joys of our lives. Earlier this year I decided that I'd become a rescuer.  I have a nice house with a large enough backyard to accommodate unwanted buns on Death Row at the RSPCA.  Enter Riley, the most adorably grumpy little ND.  Sadly he passed away a short while ago.  We never really tried placing him with anyone.  I sort of decided before I even saw him that he was going to be a special needs bun and I was the best person to care for him. So there you have it.  That's how I came by my buns.  I'd never trade them for anything, and I love them as much as I love my family. I hope you enjoyed my little story.   Take care 'Nessa

Subject: How did you all come by your buns? From: dc
The Buck Bunny Story: From 1975 to 1995 all my rabbits where outdoor rabbits. The last one died in Oct of 1995, a month before I moved into an apt. One of my friends felt sorry for me and got me a domestic wild cat. I had the cat one month before the landlord came knocking on the door. Busted! So, I call an old girlfriend in Fort Laud and convinced her to take the cat. After a long drive (very sad) I give her the cat and child/cat support money. But, as I was leaving she says I'll take the cat under one more condition. What condition is that? I said. She says someone gave me this old rabbit and I can't keep it anymore Its an English Lop neutered female she said. Long battle ensued but, I left with the rabbit. I turned her loose at my place of business where she never left the fenced in yard. I set her up in an old dog house with food and water and you could tell she really loved her new rabbit country club. Then one day my younger brother visits me with this idea thing _expression_ on his face. He says Daryl, I see you got this rabbit thing all figured out.....How about talking my dwarf (male)? because, the kids give it no attention and its always caged up. I said, ok, I'll just put him out back and the other rabbit will have company. Then one day I notice the female doing some major dirt excavation work. She hand dirt piled up 2 feet high and about 3 feet wide. She hand built the biggest underground system under my building I had ever seen. I walked up and said to her nice pad Well, 6 weeks went by and then one day I hear my secretary yell in this cutezy dutezy voice We've got Bunnies! I said we've got what! I look out the window and there are 6 baby rabbits doing binky's through and around the chain _link_ed fence. The C.E.O of my corporation showed up that day and I knew I was going to be unemployed. Instead he smiled and says pick out the best one for my grand daughter and come up with some kind of solution for the others. So I get the female and male neutered where they lived out the rest of their lives on the complex. I gave away all the babies and kept a white male blue-eyed looking dwraf that had the best personality. I called the C.E.O. and says I've got your bunny ready. He says I'll pick it up next month...buy it all the things it needs and take it home.. take the money out of petty cash and call it employee relations. I said Ok. Well he missed the monthy visitation and another month went by. I called up and said this rabbit is almost 3 months old . why don't I drive it to your grand daughters house? He said because the parents don't want it so, you keep it I tried everything to give away this bunny but, no one one take him. So I felt responsible for him and kept him in the apartment, double locked, and never answering the door and always doing my own repairs when things broke. The C.E.O re assigned me for one year in another city where me and Buck Bunny lived in a hotel room. (lotsa stories here) A year went by and we went back to the apartment. Years have gone by without getting busted (I now just jynk's myself). That is the Buck Bunny (Peter) Story. Buck was born March 30th, 1996. Daryl

Alan & I went to the local mall to see a movie.  A new pet store was opening while we were there, and they had baby mini lops - much too young, but I didn't realize it then.  I said that I wanted a bunny.  (I was mostly retired and had more time for a pet.)  Alan said we didn't need a bunny.  I said no, I didn't need one, but I wanted one.  We went home with Twilight. She proceeded to wrap daddy around her little paw.  Unfortunately, it turned out that all the bunnies at that store were sick.  The others were brought back dead with a few days.  We found out that Twilight had Pasteurella. With vet care and lots of spoiling, Twilight still only lived to 2.5 years. I guess we didn't do enough.  I still miss her terribly.  Twilight was the sweetest, most affectionate little girl I could have wished for. I wanted a new bunny to love.  There was no way I was going to go to a pet store again.  We decided to get a pair to keep each other company.  Twilight only had the cat for company since we were afraid that another bunny might get sick from Twilight and that bonding stress might make Twilight worse. The cat would lick Twilight's head once in a while, but generally paid little attention to her.  (Darkstar is an abandonded cat we took in.  We live in a rural area and people frequently dump animals.  Darkstar showed up just after our dog died at 14 years old.) So we went to look at a pair of bonded sisters the HRS had.  The girls weren't spayed yet, though.  We also saw a pair of neutered brothers who were very cute, but not bonded.  Since the boys were let out for playtime together, we didn't think it would be much trouble to bond them.  We adopted the boys, and they bonded very easily, but I had a rude surprise.  The boys are afraid of most everything - especially us.  No matter how much time I spent sitting in their room or talking to them, they seemed to hate us. This was quite a shock after a bunny that begged for attention and lavished me with kisses.  To add injury to insult, my allergies got so bad that I was wheezing. (I'm allergic to cats and rabbits.) The HRS said that maybe I'd be better off with a single rabbit that was more affectionate.  We were looking into this when I went into the local shelter. I donate copies of the House Rabbit Handbook to the shelter for them to give to folks that adopt rabbits.  In one of the cages was a lop girl who plainly said, I am you bunny .  I petted her until one of the staff came in and scolded me.  I said I wanted to adopt her, but they told me that she would not be considered adoptable until noon on the day after she was spayed and that they couldn't hold a pet for anyone.  I showed up at 11:45 AM on the day after she was spayed and took her home. Of course, we didn't want to send the boys back and the HRS really needed the extra space.  I asked the HRS if I could foster the boys if I couldn't get my allergies under contol, and they agreed.  I went to an allergist who helped me knock the symptoms down to a reasonable level - so now we have three buns and a cat.  We're in the process of bonding our little girl to the boys. Well, Riin, my spouse and wife, really wanted a cat.  But I find cats creepy (sorry cat lovers) and I would not feel comfortable in a home with a cat stalking around in it.  One day Riin came home from a spinning meeting (She's into spinning yarn and knitting it) and told me she almost brought home a bunny.  A member of the spinning group breeds Angora rabbits for their wool, and for people who want them for their wool.  What is a grooming problem for most Angora pals in this group is a natural resource for spinners. She really didn't expect me to go along with it, but while I couldn't tolerate living with a cat, I had nothing against rabbits.  How could anyone have anything against rabbits?  I mean, they're *rabbits*. Sadly Erica did not get along with Riin.  In retrospect, from what we've learned since, we should have started off differently.  After a couple weeks, Riin, very sadly, took Erica back to the breeder and brought home Erica's sister, Frida.  Frida is just the gentlest, friendliest bunny you could know, and she's lived here nearly five years. Last October, Delia (the regular a.p.r poster) informed us that an acquaintance of hers was trying to give away her rabbit, a holland lop named Ferdinand.  The acquaintance and her ex-boyfriend had bought Ferdinand, and promptly broke up. The acquaintance's roommate didn't like rabbits, so Ferdy was stuck in a cage in the windowless _base_ment.  The acquaintance's roommate liked to save money by turning off unecessary lights
