Newsflash

We do yourself or another person to cut and send pictures via mobile phone. Often the assumption that only someone will see it next. And then usually ends with a nervous breakdown and even suicide, because it is difficult to control the situation when compromising materials will circulate between mobile phones and gets into the network.

Then there was hype on selenium preventing cancer, now nothing.
Nothing? On selenium? My wife is a cancer survivor, so I read whatever I can find on the subject of cancer, and I discuss much of it with her oncologist. There is still quite a bit said and written on selenium, and our oncologist thinks there is something to it. The problem is that it isn't being studied properly in the traditional halls of research. Just because it isn't currently being thoroughly researched doesn't mean there is nothing to it.

<snip 4. Don't consume much dairy unless you are of northern European descent.        Maybe it's because I graduated from college so long ago or I slept through this part, but could you expand on that?  What is it about northern Europeans that makes it okay (desirable?) for them to eat dairy and not anyone else?  I was under the impression some (most, perhaps) Indians and some Africans have a lot of dairy in their diet.  I've not heard of there being any problems with their diet that would not also apply to northern Europeans, viz., high fat. N.B.  I've not been following this thread.  I just happened to pick it up, and this particular item caught my eye.  I will comment, however, that when I was in college, nutrition was not the hot topic it is now days.  Most of the items you list are things I have picked up in recent years.  A good list, BTW, although item 4 puzzles me. Regards, Tony posted and mailed Tony-Ed's referring to lactose intolerance.  Most of the humans on Earth cannot digest mass quantities of lactose after infancy.  Northern Europeans are the mutants , in that they have acquired the ability to digest lactose into adulthood.  The degree of lactose intolerance varies widely amongst people.  Some can't tolerate even a small amount that's used as a filler in a packet of artificial sweetener, others can drink up to a cup of milk a day without problems.  Many lactose intolerant people can consume cultured milk products (yogurt, cheese, buttermilk) without symptoms. If you're all wondering where I've been lately, I do still read the ng. However, I've grown a bit tired of the flame wars (grownups acting like punks in the schoolyard) and the one-disease-and-one-cure-fit-all crowd. I've been posting more on bionet.women-in-science lately.  The regulars are a bit more civil, which is a welcome change. Cindy Fuller, PhD, RD

Why do the people who pursue fortune telling, do it?  Are they all stupid?  No.  Do none of them hold difficult and responsiblity-filled jobs?  No.   Some people just cannot take reality in a straight dose, is all.   They need magic like some kind of drug.      I know this happens.  But I don't have to be a party to it.                                      Steve Harris, M.D.
Pass the Hemlock tea please Dr.Steve. Perhaps I'll be re-incarnted in time when such thoughts are considered along with the mind set that said Flat Earth, the Earth as the Centre of the Universe, Man will never fly, reach the moon, and the notion that hand washing/ sanitary conditions are not important before surgery, and that Apple is dead. All such beliefs were defended just as rationally. Its amazing what you can learn when you admit you don't know reality at all. Its realty's illusions that you profess.
